Ministry wants to slash starting price for 5G frequencies at auctions

MOSCOW, Oct 8 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has prepared a draft order to reduce significantly the starting prices of 5G frequencies at auctions, according to the document released late on Monday on the official portal.

The new calculation method will cut the starting price of a 200 MHz band in the 25.25–27.5 GHz range in Moscow to 66.8 million rubles from 436.9 million rubles.

In St. Petersburg, the starting price of the band will fall to 59 million rubles from 179.2 million rubles.

An explanatory note says the document seeks to reach the targets set by national program Digital Economy on implementation of 5G and stimulation of connection operators to improve effectiveness of exploitation of the radio frequency spectrum.

Under the program, a pilot project of 5G networks in some industries should be launched until the end of 2019 and conditions for unrolling the standard in at least 10 cities with more than 1 million people until the end of 2021 should be created.
